Our customized, small-group trips will take you into hidden Italy to experience its architecture, art, and food while enjoying some of the best meals of a lifetime.
This spring 2018 we are planning a trip that takes in the best of Italy — north and south.
Photojournalists John Kane and Wendy Carlson will guide you in visual adventure that captures the culture, the people and the beauty of both regions on a unique and intimate level.
First, we begin in the Veneto region, where we will experience what it was like living as Venetians by staying four days in the summer palace of the Marcello family, Doges of Venice. We will have full access to this stunning villa and gardens while staying in one of the refurbished wings. While in the region, we take day excursions to the must-see towns of Venice, Padova, Asolo as well as other off the beaten path destinations.
Next, we take a short flight from Venice to Napoli, where we will be transported by minivan to Azienda Seliano in Paestum, our home for the next four days. Cecilia Bellelli Baratta’s lovingly maintained villa is a cooking school, buffalo farm, and agritourismo. Some of you have met Cecilia (Ceci) when you traveled with us on a previous photo, arts, culture trips, or on one of her many visits to Connecticut. From Paestum, we visit destinations like Reggio Casserta, the fantastic Bourbon and Savoia palace that rivals Versailles, lunch at small fishing ports, tour mountain villages, and take a ferry along the Amalfi Coast, where if weather permits we will visit Capri, Ischia or one of the neighboring islands. The neighboring region of Pulia is also on our list of possibilities. We will have flexibility with the itinerary so those who may have already done a particular experience on a past trip will be able to opt for another or try something more invigorating like falconry, horseback riding, or hiking Vesuvius.
Oh, least I forget to mention, we will eat wonderful, freshly prepared regional food, featuring the best the area has to offer.
This is a special bespoke trip with a minimum of 6 people and maximum of 12.
We have a wonderful travel agent in Woodbury who can book us all on the same flights if that is desired, or can deal with individual needs. We have found her to be worth many time the extremely reasonable fee she does charge!
Our trip dates at this point are somewhat flexible, but we are looking at either the last 10 days in April or May 7th through 17th.

•Travel to Southern Italy to a lovingly maintained 19th-century villa owned by Baronessa Cecilia Bellelli, who has transformed her home into a mecca for food-lovers and culture buffs. This is a seven day trip that marries a love of food with a passion for photography- and all things Italian.
By the end of the week, photographers and artists will have time to compose an edited collection of work that captures the spirit of the region if desire, that can be digitally published into a beautiful hard-covered coffee table book. You will want some of these recipes as well! Evenings are spent sharing work, discussing composition, style and lighting and pictorial themes; or, simply recounting the day’s adventures. Non-photographing guests will participate in all day trips to vineyards, fig farms, fishing villages, oil presses and mozzarella factories, as well as partake in cooking lessons.
